The Apocrypha expansion to EVE Online was a great example of a good “big” expansion. It brought a massive expansion to EVE gameplay with the addition of wormholes and Tech 3 ships. However, sometimes it is the little things that matter, and in the wake of the Incarna debacle (a brilliant example of a bad “big” expansion) CCP have refocused on some of the smaller things. Crucible was filled with small little improvements, and it is a trend that has continued. Now in Inferno some much larger changes are taking place (to Faction Warfare, to the mineral market, and to war mechanics to mention just three) but the small changes are continuing.
I am particularly looking forward to one small thing mentioned in CCP’s SoniClover’s recent devblog – the Extrinsic Damage Amplifier. Basically it appears to be a low-slot module that boosts the damage of a ship’s drones.
I love drones. Or more accurately, I love drone-boats. Of my favourite 5 ships in EVE, 4 are drone boats (for the record and in no order, Dominix, Myrmidon, Vexor, Arbitrator, and Apocalypse). I now have the delightful problem of re-working my various fits to try and take advantage of this new module.
I can’t wait 🙂
